My goal is to turn my yard, a piece of second growth forest land into an organic vegetable and herb farm.<br \/>\nThe project began before I realized what I wanted to do. My house had become quite shaded as the trees around it had grown considerably in the first 15 years. In the winter I never got much sunlight so last fall I hired a man to &#8220;cut a couple of trees down&#8221;. Before I knew what was happening, the logging trucks were hauling away my yard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" title=\"The first truck\" alt=\"The first truck\" id=\"image4\" src=\"https:\/\/r-davis.net\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/2005_1029image0002a.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Truckload of Western Red Cedar<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nAfter the initial shock wore off, I began to adjust to my new yard<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" alt=\"The I finally get some sun\" title=\"I finally get some sun\" id=\"image5\" src=\"https:\/\/r-davis.net\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/2006_0611image0053a.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Newly Cleared Land<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nA couple of tomato plants followed me home from the grocery store one day in May and a few more in June.
